The real problem

There’s an interesting post called “The Real Problem” on the Manufacturers’ Blog over at the National Association of Manufacturers site.

If you click on the link for the slide, you’ll see a very interesting statistic that has direct implications to everyone in manufacturing and many other high-tech related fields. Working for a company that makes software that we sell to manufacturing, we’re at an interesting intersection of the two markets.

This theme is covered in some detail in “The World is Flat” (see previous post). There’s a lot of talk about the impact of outsourcing on jobs. What worries me more is what we’re doing (or not doing) about developing the skills to create the new jobs that will continue to increase our standard of living in the years to come.
