Living supply chains
There’s an interesting article over at Supply Chain Digest by Dan Gilmore. The article, entitled “Creating Living Supply Chains“, references a book called Living Supply Chains (buy it at Amazon.com) by Dr. John Gattorna, of the Sydney Business School (Australia) and Cranfield School of Management (UK).
The thing that really caught my eye was this comment: “So when you start thinking about improving your supply chain, remember the 45-45-10 rule: success is dependent 45% on people, 45% on systems (because they should help drive human decision-making) and just 10% infrastructure, says Gattorna.”
In today’s hyper-competitive, global and volatile markets, responding to the unexpected is the key - and that’s a people problem (meaning it takes people to solve the problem). And, the only way your people are going to be able to respond quickly and appropriately is by ensuring they have the right information and tools to act (this is where the systems come into play).
