Like my colleagues, Kerry Zuber and Christopher Hatcher, I was interviewed for a ‘Kinaxis Quick Take’, which are video perspectives posted on the Supply Chain Expert Community.
I was asked about integration and implementations.
Listen in and tell me your opinion on the following questions:
- What do you see as some of the most common implementation challenges in enterprise integration?
- What do you see as the biggest barrier to the effective implementation of advanced planning systems in smaller enterprises?
- What do you see as the main weakness in traditional ERP systems with respect to managing an optimal supply chain process?

The biggest barrier is money. Nobody wants to be the one who signs for spending x number of dollars on a software system that may or may not improve the bottom line. And in a small company it’s more obvious who ponied up the money.
I suppose you could say it’s also a lack of faith in software to do what it is supposed to do, lack of faith in it’s ability to deliver worthwhile benefits. But if it weren’t for the money thing, more shops would take a chance and give it a try.
In today’s world, it’s better not to try than to try and have only lukewarm results.
Biggest barrier to the effective implementation of advanced planning systems in smaller enterprises – from my experience in a developing country, APS too complex for the enterprise – IT and business.
